ESCAPING THE VILLAGE IS NOT THE NEW 6s CUP OF TEA 2 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 4
Everyone who knows the Prisoner is familiar with the scene during the titles when Patrick McGoohans character storms into his superiors office to resign and in his fury slams his fist down upon the desk so hard that he breaks the cup of tea sitting on it.

During the new version of 'Arrival', during 6s first meeting with 2, 6 similarly slams his fist down upon 2s desk...and barely disturbs the teacup sitting there.

I submit that this was perhaps to communicate to us that the new 6 is NOT nearly as strong (in every sense of the word) as the original and possibly to foreshadow the fact that he will fail...

Perhaps I am reaching?

No, I think you're on the mark. And it follows up in a similar way: in the original, No. 6 is defiant when he first faces the Village, and even his initial confusion is expressed with rage. Six in th remake is much more docile. When he says he is not a number, but a free man, it's hard to take him too seriously.

McGoohan's character was a force to be reckoned with, as the Village eventually realized. Remake Six was too docile, too compliant, and in the end, co-opted.
