Will be get to see a Number 1 character in the new series?

If so, who or what will it be?

AMC hasn't said. I asked them a while back how they were going to handle the fact that we've known for forty years that Number 6 was Number 1, or were we going to have to suspend that knowledge when we watch the new series, and they said not to assume that what we think we already know is correct. Appropriately enigmatic, but the impression I had is that Number 1 may very well not be Number 6 after all. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I hope it's as confusingly symbolic as the last one, I don't want it to be the Bond villain reveal that McGoohan avoided so much!

You know what I just realised? There doesn't seem to be a Butler this time! What a shame... not surprised though. I say that because there was always a possibility the Butler could be Number 1 before it was actually revealed

Does anyone know why they aren't simply doing a sequel to the original instead of re-doing the old show?

To me, the fact that there's a Number Two by necessity implies a Number One. There *must* be a Number One in the new show, I think.

My guess is that Number Six will still be Number One, but they'll have a more pat, logical explanation for it. I bet that rather than outright experimental narrative and allegorical surrealism, they'll apply a kind of Se7en/Usual Suspects/Fight Club 'twist' ending.
